1 hour today

Only had about an hour today. 2 more shells, 35 cents, and an official ring. Calling it junk is too kind, but it is at least a ring, no argument can be made there.

"L" is for loot?

More like for lump. No complaints though, its all somewhat interesting out there. Today; 51 cents, (all modern) the aforementioned "L", a chunk of aluminium (from a door or window frame?) some smaller chunks, and interestingly enough, a toy tank and 2 shells of some sort.

It finally came.....

I didn't find much though. Than again, I only had about 30 minutes before dark. 4 bottlecaps 2 pulltabs, 35 cents (modern of course) and a weird button looking thing.

These were all from the front yard, near the large cedar tree.

First trip out (sort of)

Well, my metal detector hasn't arrived yet. Actually, it hasn't even shipped yet, but I also ordered my 4 year old a small toy metal detector, and it arrived today. We spent a couple hours out in the year seeing what it was capable of finding. He had a blast, looks like we'll have to be back out there tomorrow evening as well.

So, with the $10 metal detector, we pulled up 1 truck, 2 Hot Wheels, and 2 of the old hollow stamped cars; 3 dimes, a nickle and 5 pennies (all modern); some misc junk metal (most of which is impossible to ID) and a weird split bolt (designed for *something*, I'm sure).

Not too bad for our first trip outside digging where it beeped.

The timing is terrible.

So, I was going to hit the ares to the south of my house first due to the fact that I am having a new garage built over there.

I was expecting my detector to arrive before the concrete slab was poured, but this may not happen.

The permit was awarded today, and they may start working sooner than I thought.

I should ask one of the guys over at metaldetectingforum.com and see if they want to scour the area before it gets buried under concrete.

First Things First.

When I agreed to buy the house, I knew it was something I would end up doing.

The house itself, was converted from a farm shack to a small house by my great grandfather. Estimates on the original structure are from the 20's, and the build of the house was in 1948. There have been a few additions after that point, and a good portion of the land has been sold off.

The land I ended up buying with the house was 1.18 acres, not too bad for 20 minutes to downtown Dallas.

My grandparents bought the house from my great grandparents, and my mother bought out her sibling's share and it was her house until June of this year, when I bought it from her.

As I'm just starting out in metal detecting, A fairly low end unit will suffice. My wife just ordered me a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV and the additional 4 inch coil.

I'll be keeping track here of the stuff I find in the year here, in the neighbors yard that used to be the same property (if they will allow me to do so), in the area parks, and wherever else I manage to make it off to.
